Treasured Thoughts
Feeling a little stuck this week
I’ve been in a writing funk lately.
Nothing’s wrong, but something isn’t quite right.
I sit down, hack out 2000 words, only to then abandon re-writing and editing. I’ve done this three times this week.
Perhaps I’m not ready to say what I need to say.
Perhaps I’m doing too much and need to dial things back.
Or perhaps I’m spending too many hours hunched over my desk, tapping away at my laptop, and not enough time living.
So to break this creative bottleneck I’m using the assistance of others.
I hoard snippets of conversations I have, like how Smaug the dragon hoards gold. These conversations tend to run late into the night where my loved ones and I connect over our thoughts on life.
Here are my favourite thoughts from others that I deeply treasure.
Just as you outgrow people, people can outgrow you too. No two journeys are ever the same, and allow people to become who they are.
I’m no longer fighting to be understood. I’m now fighting to understand myself.
Don’t feel sorry for people who don’t want to help themselves.
People won’t remember how much money you’ve made or saved or what you own. They remember how you made them feel.
There’s nothing wrong with being patient to find the right answers. Sometimes rushing for clarity can lead you further away from the truth.
You were what I needed, but not what I need anymore.
Don’t be so hard on your older self. You wouldn’t be where you are today if it wasn’t for him.
Sometimes not knowing where you are is a sign in itself. Sometimes feeling lost is not an indication of where you’ll always be. Sometimes the most you can do is accept that where you are currently is exactly where you need to be.
How you treat yourself will set the precedent for how others treat you.
A good man is to be responsible for himself and also responsible for those around him.
Make sure you’re not impressing people who don’t add value to your life.
The irony of courage is that we find it easier to be braver for someone else than we do for ourselves alone.
Act as if the world is watching but tell the story as if one person is listening.
You can’t get away from yourself by moving to another place.
The choice between hating and forgiving can become the story of your life.
Great connection requires communication and consistency.
To be loved is like to feel the sun. To love yourself is to be the sun.
Home is a feeling.
Sometimes I think of you. Not because I miss you or I’m reminscing old romantic times. But because I’m grateful. You were the lesson I needed to be where I am today.
Time is not a metric to measure the quality of connection.
